meditation classes

We run weekly drop-in meditation classes on Monday evenings from 7.30-9.30pm.

At these classes we offer the opportunity to learn two fundamental meditation practices that help to develop clarity, positivity and peace of mind. These classes are suitable for beginners, as well as those with experience seeking to deepen their practice.

We offer two meditation classes on Monday nights, with a new class specifically for regulars and those wishing to take their practice deeper. In the regular’s class we’ll be sitting for longer periods and there’ll be a chance for more in depth teaching and exploration to help you hone your meditation practice.

For those newer to meditation or who are unfamiliar with the practices we teach, we will have a separate space for teaching and support covering the basics of our two main practices: the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana.

These two classes will happen at the same time, in the same venue, with the chance to come together half way through for a tea break.

Our aim is to provide a local situation in which people can meditate together, and explore Buddhism as a living spiritual tradition, within a friendly and active community of like-minded people.

You don’t have to be a Buddhist to come to our classes. We welcome anyone who wants to come along to learn about meditation and Buddhism.

Our teachers are ordained members of the Triratna Buddhist Order, or those training for ordination, and all have many years experience of committed personal practice of meditation and Buddhism.

These classes are held in-person at Effra Space. There’s no need to book. The class is held in two halves with a tea break in the middle. Check our events page for more information about each week’s class.

During lockdown these classes were held online. You can still watch these classes on our YouTube channel or check out our Learn to Meditate playlist to hear the basics.Â
