Monday Night Meditation

2nd October @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm BST

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 7:30 pm on Monday, happening 20 times

Whether we are trying to meditate, to finish some task, or to think something through, our minds throw up distraction. From a Buddhist perspective it is distraction which keeps our minds and our lives on a superficial level and stops us finding deeper engagement, satisfaction and connection.

Buddhist meditation empowers us to understand the ways in which we distract ourselves in meditation and gives us ways to release ourselves into more creative, vibrant and emotionally positive states of mind. The Buddha said that the mind is luminous when released from the distractions.

For those newer to meditation or who are unfamiliar with the practices we teach, we will have a separate space for teaching and support covering the basics of our two main practices: the Mindfulness of Breathing and the Metta Bhavana. These two classes will happen at the same time, in the same venue, with the chance to come together half way through for a tea break.

In-person. Just turn up from 7.20pm, no booking necessary.

7.30pm-9.30pm
at Effra Space, 21 Effra Parade,
SW2 1PX
(venue has step-free access throughout)

Donations

To keep our classes accessible, all events at Brixton Buddhist Community are offered by donation. We’d suggest a donation of £10 per class, depending on your income. Although our classes are all run by volunteers, in order to cover our costs we’re completely reliant on your gifts and generosity to run classes, courses and events, and to keep them available for all.

The Brixton Buddhist Community is a fully registered UK Charity (no. 1084889)
