Meditations on the Worldly Winds: Introduction

We sit down quietly and focus our minds on the breath or a sense of loving kindness. There is some peace and quiet … and then the wind starts blowing.

The “Worldly Winds”, as they are called in Buddhism, are the ups and downs of life. Generally we want to hold on to the positive and try to avoid the negative but, no matter how hard we try, everyone will experience all aspects of the winds at some point in their lives.

In this Monday night meditation series we’ll explore how, through meditation, we can develop a deeper understanding of the inevitability of change and a greater emotional resilience so that, when the winds blow, we can sail them more smoothly.

Each evening consists of two meditations, a short talk and discussion on YouTube and then a concluding discussion on Zoom. In this first session we’ll be introducing the idea of the worldly winds.

The second part of the class takes place in the Discussion Lounge on Zoom. This is a friendly, welcoming space to share our practice and our lives.

Particularly now, when our opportunities to connect are so few and far between, the Discussion Lounge offers us a moment to come together and talk honestly and openly about whatever is happening in our experience.

Newcomers are always warmly welcomed!
