Dharma Night: The symbolic and archetypal figures of Buddhism

28th July @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm BST

Dharma Night at the Brixton Buddhist Community

Now just in-person, and no need to book!
Just turn up at Effra Space, Brixton, from 7.20pm

Dharma Night is a public class for anyone interested in understanding and practicing the simple and profound teachings of Buddhism. With practice, this path is said to lead to a state of mind beyond dissatisfaction and suffering, toward a mind that is light, spacious and filled with joy.

This class is especially suitable for those newer to Buddhism, or those who might be exploring Dharma teachings for the first time.

Each week covers a fundamental Buddhist theme or teaching and is built around a discussion between two experienced teachers. There will also be a short guided meditation, comfort break and a chance for questions.

Dharma Night: The symbolic and archetypal figures of Buddhism

Currently at Dharma night we are exploring the Three Jewels, representing the ideal of the Buddha, the path of the Dharma and and the community of enlightened practitioners, who work to radiate the light of awakening into the world.

This five week series will look at glimmering facets of the Sangha jewel; the Spiritual Community that inspires and guides us on the path towards enlightenment.

This Wednesday, we will explore the topic of the Bodhisattva. This key ideal, which comes from the Mahāyāna schools of Buddhism, is about focusing all effort towards enlightenment for the purpose of freeing other beings from suffering. One core element of this approach is moving our spiritual focus from a more narrow, personal view, and instead towards a wider vision and importance placed on practising for the good of others and their wellbeing. Join us as we investigate this influential teaching and discuss how it might powerfully affect our own practice and lives.

Join in-person

Social distancing measures have now been lifted in England, so this event will run at a larger capacity than recent classes. Simply drop in on the night, no need to book!

Face coverings are also now discretionary. The wearing of face coverings at this event will therefore be optional but still welcomed if you would prefer to do so.
