Dharma Night: The Essence of the Dharma

May 12 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm BST

Dharma Night at the Brixton Buddhist Community

Dharma Night is a public class for anyone interested in understanding and practicing the simple and profound teachings of Buddhism. With practice, this path is said to lead to a state of mind beyond dissatisfaction and suffering, toward a mind that is light, spacious and filled with joy.

This class is especially suitable for those newer to Buddhism, who might be exploring Dharma teachings for the first time.

Each week covers a fundamental Buddhist theme or teaching and is built around a discussion between two experienced teachers. There will also be a short guided meditation, tea break and a chance for questions.

Dharma Night: The Essence of the Dharma

At Dharma night we explore the Three Jewels, representing the ideal of the Buddha, the path of the Dharma and and the community of enlightened practitioners, who work to radiate the light of awakening into the world.

This nine week series will look at glimmering facets of the Dharma jewel; the tangible path to Enlightenment taught by the Buddha and his followers down the ages.

This Wednesday we will be exploring the Essence of the Dharma. What gives unity to the many diverse expressions of the Dharma? This is hard to describe in words. Buddhism is essentially an experience of direct reality. This means seeing things as they are, and with clarity of vision and experience, comes freedom. The Buddha said, “Just as the mighty ocean has but one taste, the taste of salt, even so the Dharma-vinaya (Buddhism) has but one taste, the taste of Freedom.” (Extract from ‘The Udana’).

** Please note – social distancing and wearing of masks is required to attend this class. **

Spaces are limited, so a free booking is required to reserve your place.

Our classes are free of charge but all donations are gratefully received. We are completely reliant on your gifts to run these events, and to keep them free for those without the means to give financially. We’d suggest a donation of £10/£5 for each event, depending on your income.
